These last 2 months have been pretty miserable. It started with a regular cold that turned into a sinus infection, then an ear infection, then the diagnosis of “chronic pansinusitis” which is a fancy term for “everything is focking infected in your ear/nose/throat.”
I went through 2 rounds of antibiotics, and 2 rounds of corticosteroids.
ENT went well. Looked into my ears, down my throat and up my nose. He says the infections looks to be gone now. But everything is still inflammed.
He said that the “post-infection inflammation” can take 1-2 months to clear. He said the worst cases take 3 months. But he was encouraging to me that I will start to continue to get better.
He said the reason for the gagging wasn’t that i have enlarged tonsils… it’s that I have an extra large tongue! And a narrow/tight throat. He said that’s probably the reason for my sleep apnea. He actually said my tonsils are pretty small.
I’m writing all of this down so I can remember everything he said (the post-appointment notes don’t say anything).
So he recommends lowering acidic food/drink intake (little to no tea/coffee) and to continue using prilosec so that the throat/esophagus can heal. He said to use flonase for about 4 weeks to help with the inflammation and drainage.
He said the corticosteroids, while necessary, probably also caused additional dizziness and anxiety/restlessness.
There was a lot said and it was very encouraging. I’m hopeful now that I’ll be back to 100%. Just taking it one day at at time.
